United States men's national team star Timothy Weah has opened up on what he misses most while living in Italy as a footballer for Juventus.

  WHAT HAPPENED?

  In a recent where Weah spoke with teammate Samuel Illing Jr., the USMNT star spoke on what he misses most about living in Italy, how family prepared him for life across Europe and how growing up in New York City helped prepare him for a footballer lifestyle. Despite currently being sidelined by injury, Weah has been active and participating in events on and off the pitch with the Turin side.

• WHAT WEAH SAID

  The winger told Juve's official channel: "I had my brother at PSG. When I was young I already knew my goals, I already knew what I wanted to do. At 14 I was hungry to get where I wanted to go. It was a different experience than at home, where I had my mother. I always had someone accompanying me. I had my friends. It's a transition, you emerge young, at a very young age… From NYC to France? It wasn't very difficult for me. My family had already lived there, we had experienced European culture, my father speaks French and Italian. [The hardest thing] was perhaps the food, the stuff at home. Jamaican food, my mother is from there. You can't find it in Italy, but England isn't far away! [My family] played a very important role. My father was around less because he always had to work. My mother traveled a lot. Then my older brother, who's 10 years older than me, was already in France when I arrived there. On weekends when I'm not with the team I'm in Paris with him. He made the transition easy. The staff were key, I was often at their homes, it was fun."

  THE BIGGER PICTURE

  Weah left his family at a young age, joining the PSG academy and making a handful of first-team appearances with the French giants. He then went on to move to Lille in France, where he helped win the Ligue 1 title in stunning fashion in 2021. A big summer move to Juventus – their only transfer of the window – has seen him successfully land in Italy, earn the manager's trust while also thrusting himself into the starting XI on a near weekly basis.

  WHAT NEXT FOR WEAH AND JUVENTUS?

  The Turin side are back in action this weekend, with the derby D'Italia taking place on Sunday against league leaders Inter. With a win, Juve can leapfrog their rivals into first in Serie A, whereas a victory for the away side could see them extend the gap between first and second to five points. Weah, however, will miss the clash due to injury.
